Eden's Yard Backpacker Hostel - Review

August 09, 2018

If you have read my previous post then you will know that I spend 4 days down in Saint Austell as a well needed short break away. Whilst there I stayed at Eden's Yard Backpacker Hostel in Tregrehan Mills. A beautifully unique Hostel that fits right in with Cornwall. I love the creativity of the place with the use of old stables that have been converted into dorm rooms and car seats have been made into movable seats that allow that extra bit of comfort. This is the same for the whole atmosphere of the place, its so relaxed and welcoming. Honestly if you ever get the chance to stay at this hostel do. You will not regret it. Eden's Yard Backpacker hostel is truly a excellent place and I would have stayed there longer if I could. The price to stay is super cheap and affordable, its worth a lot more then you pay!

The people who live/run the hostel  are so welcoming and I felt so relaxed as soon as I got there. It's so nice to stay at a place where the owners want to talk to their guests and spend time with them; Most nights this is done around a fire in the main sitting area after dinner. I felt I could really be myself around these people.  They also have amazing knowledge of the area and know all the amazing gems Saint Ausstel have to offer.

My first impression - As I have mentioned above this hostel gives on an excellent first impression, from friendly people to a chilled environment, the hostel is spotless with quirky decor and creative use of the space. I knew I would enjoy my stay here.

Dorm rooms - The dorm rooms are converted stables that make the hostel really unique. I loved the lay out of the rooms with bunk beds, beautiful vintage rugs and a little set of draws under the window (in the room i was staying in). They were nice little touches which just added to the quirky atmosphere. Linen was provided which allowed solo travelers or people staying only for a night or so not have to worry about carrying around bedding. By having the stable doors it allowed a lot of natural light to come into the room during the day. At night each bed has a light on the wall in the bunk which is perfect for late night reading.

The hay barn - The quirkiest room is located next to dorm B, The hay barrn houses a toaster and kettle, which you can use at any time during the day from breakfast which is included; toast and a cuppa, cant get any better then that. Or an afternoon brew. There is seating with easy access to electric if you want to charge your phone or get out the sun. A beautiful log burner and a coffee table perfect for resting your brew as you turn the page of your book. The walls are covered in vintage art, ornaments and plants giving it that extra cozy feeling.

Outdoor sitting area - With a massive table towards the front of the hostel where for an additional charge you can join for a dealicous 3 course meal dinner which can be catered for all needs. Next to that is some more seating which included 2 car seats that have been creativily made into movable seating. There is lots of space which is perfect for everyone at the hostel to come together and just relax. Behind the seating is access to self catering, with a fridge to keep any chilled items. Drinks and snacks can also be purchased from a counter-top fridge which is perfect for when you want something sweet.

Bathroom - Modern yet beautiful with 2 showers and 4 (don't hold me to thattoilets which were all spotless. There is also a lot of space on the side to put your things whilst you got ready in the morning as well as 3 sinks and mirrors. 2 people could happily share a sink and mirror,(which did happen one night, nothing like making friends over brushing your teeth) without getting into each others bubble.

Getting to the Eden's Yard - Eden's yard can be accessed by multiples ways. Car is the easiest however there is no spaces to park around the hostel other then the main street which comes with a charge, in my opinion if I drove this wouldn't be a problem due to the area in which the hostel is located. If it was in the middle of a city then it would be different. Also its not fair on the locals to not be able to park due to travelers. Its also possible to walk from either Saint Ausstel train station or Par station, each will take about 45 minutes to walk, maybe an hour if you want to take in the local area. Most of the way its a public footpath but heading into Tregrehan Mills you will have to walk on the road but this is safe to do so.
